World prematurity day is observed every year on the 17th of November. According to world health organisation (WHO) over 15million preterm births occur globally every year.
Preterm birth is when a baby is born before the the 37th weeks of pregnancy is over.

The European foundation for the care of new born infants(EFCNI), based in Munich, Germany and its partnering European parents organisations initiated world prematurity day in 2008. After the inclusion of international co-founders littleBigsouls (Africa), National premmie foundation (Australia) and March of Dimes (USA), this special day became an intercontinental movement.
On the 17th of every year,people across the world, groups and organisations come together to address the issue of preterm birth. It is a day to create awareness about preterm birth and the challenges and burden related to the issue.
